Silke Gade was born in Germany. Drawn by the beauty and wild places of Canada, Silke and her husband immigrated to Canada in 1990 and settled down in Alberta. Holding an engineering degree in information technology, Silke worked in this field and spent all her spare time hiking and cross country skiing the Rocky Mountains.
In 2003, Silke and her husband gave up their jobs to fulfill their dream of moving north to the Yukon for a more remote lifestyle, surrounded by untamed wilderness. They made Haines Junction, Yukon their new home. Silke took up painting in watercolour and acrylic. Exploring different media, she also discovered the joy of painting digitally, using software painting tools that simulate traditional painting tools. Silke is self-taught. Her paintings reflect her passion for nature and her love of the magical northern scenery.
